HCA | Dangerous Goods by Air Awareness (Digital Delivery)
1.Target Group
The target group for the Dangerous Goods by Air Awareness Training Programme is offshore personnel involved in Helicopter operations.
2.Delegate Pre-requisites
There is no formal pre-requisite required for this course. However, delegates are required to have an ability to read and understand English language.
3.Physical and Stressful Demands
There are no physical and stressful demands in this course, however the delegates will be required to undergo medical screening by completing appropriate
medical screening form provided by QISC in order to ensure that the delegates are fit and well to participate fully.
4.Aims and Objectives
This course aims to provide learners with industry best practice in relation to the transportation of dangerous goods by air in accordance with Part 1, Chapter
1.4 of the ICAO Technical Instructions and sub section 1.5 of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, Category 7, 8 or 9 or state aviation approved dangerous
goods awareness training course. The objective of this course is to enable personnel to recognise the classes of dangerous goods and to pack, mark, label
and document articles and items correctly.

At the end of the course delegates will be able to:
Section 1: Introduction to Dangerous Goods

LO2 Explain why dangerous goods are transported by air
LO3 Identify areas that require increased attention
LO4 Give an overview of the rules governing the transportation of dangerous goods
Section 2: Hazard Classes
LO5 Identify the different hazard classes
LO6 Define hazard class numbers and divisions
Section 3: Packing and Packaging
LO7 Describe how dangerous goods should be packed
LO8 Identify the different packing groups
LO9 Identify the different types of packaging
LO10 Describe the different types of packing methods
Section 4: Labelling
LO11 Identify the information that should be detailed on hazard labels
LO12 Identify the minimum pieces of information required to be detailed on dangerous goods labels
LO13 Describe how radioactive material is labelled
LO14 Identify the different types of handling labels
Section 5: Loading
LO15 Explain how dangerous goods should be loaded and stowed in aircraft
LO16 Describe the requirements that apply to a Class B cargo compartment
LO17 Explain how substances which may react with one another are loaded on board
LO18 Describe the requirements that apply to the loading of radioactive material
Section 6: Documentation
LO19 Identify who is responsible for documenting dangerous goods
LO20 Describe the use of the Shipper’s Declaration
LO21 Identify the personnel who should be provided with information on dangerous goods on board and aircraft
LO22 Describe the use of the NOTOC
Section 7: Emergency Procedures
LO23 Identify where to find information on emergency procedures in the event of an incident involving dangerous goods
LO24 Describe the actions to take in the event of an incident involving dangerous goods
6.Delegate Performance Assessment / Certification / Validity
Delegate Performance Assessment: Delegates attending this computer based training and assessment programme will be given a series of explanations
which will identify what they are expected to know and do in their role.
This will be followed by a series of tests to check knowledge and understanding.
Certification: Successful candidate will be issued an IATA approved certificate
valid for 2 years.
