Highfield International Award in the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Level 2
1. Target Group
This course is aimed at those learners, who work in areas such as manufacturing, cleaning, healthcare, transport and office environments, who may come
into contact with hazardous substances.
2. Delegate Pre-requisites
There are no prerequisites required for Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Training.
3. Physical and Stressful Demands
There are no physical and stressful demands in this course, however the delegates will be required to undergo medical screening by completing appropriate
medical screening form provided by QISC in order to ensure that the delegates are fit and well to participate fully.
4. Aims and Objectives
The aims and objectives of the training are to ensure that the delegate gains the required knowledge, skills and understanding to recognise the risks and
control measures when dealing with substances hazardous to health.
5. Learning Outcomes / Assessment Criteria
After successful completion of this training, delegates must able to:
(1) Understand the roles of employees and employers in COSHH
– Outline employer and employee roles in relation to hazardous substances at work
– Identify consequences of non – compliance with duties
– State ways in which an employer can communicate information relating to hazardous substances.
(2) Understand the effects of exposure to hazardous substances
– Identify the different forms that hazardous substances can take
– Identify ways in which hazardous substances can enter the body
– Outline effects of exposure to hazardous substances
– Identify the safety signs used on hazardous substances.
(3) Understand how risk assessments help in the safe use of hazardous substances
– Define the following terms in relation to hazardous substances Hazard, Risk & Risk assessment
– Describe the purpose of risk assessments in reducing accidents and ill health at work
– Outline how to reduce the risk of exposure to hazardous substances
– Identify the types of information that should be used for the safe use of hazardous substances
– Describe the procedures used when dealing with any incident involving hazardous substances.
6. Delegate Performance Assessment / Certification / Validity
Delegate Performance Assessment: Delegates will be assessed against the learning outcomes 1 through 3 using by multiple choice question containing
15 questions. Successful learners must achieve a minimum pass mark of 9 correct answers (60%). Learners who achieve a pass mark of 12 (80%) correct
answers or above will achieve a Merit.
Certification: Highfield issued certification with no specific validity.
(Certification Issuance will take minimum of 30 working days after the successful completion of course.)
