NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Chalk & Talk)
1.Target Group
This course is designed for managers, supervisors, workers’ representative and others who requires knowledge and understanding of health and safety
principles and practices.
2.Delegate Pre-requisites
Delegates are required to have an ability to read and understand English language as this course will be delivered only in English. NEBOSH recommends
that candidates undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System
(IELTS) score of 6.0.
3.Physical and Stressful Demands
The delegates who participate in this course and examination must be physically and mentally capable of participating fully. Therefore, the delegates will be
required to undergo medical screening by completing a Self-declaration of Medical Fitness form provided by QISC prior to participating in the course.
4.Aims and Objectives
This course aims to provide broad understanding of health and safety principles and practices, enabling candidates to effectively discharge workplace
health and safety responsibilities in all parts of the world. It also provides sound basis for evaluating hazards and risks in any business and in any countries.
5.Learning Outcomes / Assessment Criteria
The learner will be able to:
Justify health and safety improvements using moral, financial and legal arguments.
Advise on the main duties for health and safety in the workplace and help their organisations manage contractors.
Work within a health and safety management system, recognizing what effective policy, organizational responsibilities and arrangements should look like.
Positive influence health and safety culture and behavior to improve performance in their organization.
Do a general risk assessment in their own workplace – profiling and prioritizing risks, inspecting the workplace, recognizing a range of common hazards,
evaluation risks (taking account of current controls), recommending further control measures, planning actions.
Recognise workplace changes that have significant health and safety impacts and effective ways to minimize those impacts.
Develop basic safe system of work (including taking account of typical emergencies) and knowing when to use permit-to-work systems for special risks.
Take part in incident investigations.
Help their employer to check their management system effectiveness – through monitoring, audits and reviews.
6.Delegate Performance Assessment / Certification / Validity
Delegate Performance Assessment: All units are mandatory and there are no optional units. (Question paper: one 20-mark question and ten 8-mark
question)
Units IG1: Management of health and safety (Elements 1.1, 1.2 and 3.4 are also assessed by the practical assessment, Unit IG2) is taught unit
assessed by one two-hours written examination. All questions are compulsory and are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.
Unit IG2 (Risk assessment): is assessed by a three-hours practical examination carried out in the candidate’s workplace. The practical assessment
must normally be taken within 14 days of a written examination is internally assessed by QISC (NEBOSH approved practical assessor) and externally
moderated by NEBOSH.
A ‘Pass’ must be achieved in both units to achieve the International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
Certification: NEBOSH certification (certificate issuance will take minimum
of 30 days from the course completion)
