QE Approved Basic H2S Training
Scope (Target Group)
The H2S training programme is designed for all personnel, including visitors required to work or visit any of the QE operational areas.
Aims
To provide knowledge and understanding of:
Hazards associated with Hydrogen Sulphide gas (H2S)
Threshold Limit Value (TLV)
H2S detection system in relation to H2S
Emergency response procedures during an H2S gas related emergency
Use of emergency escape equipment
Objectives
On completion of the course participants will have sufficient knowledge to be able to:
Describe the hazards associated with exposure to H2S
State the Threshold Limit Value for H2S
Describe the correct actions to be taken upon activation of an H2S alarm
Demonstrate the H2S emergency escape procedures
Demonstrate the safe donning, start-up and operation of the Escape Breathing Apparatus set
Demonstrate how to connect and disconnect from pressurized cascade system
Structure of the Course (Course Content)
Theory Explanation:
How H2S is formed and where it is found.
Other names used to describe H2S.
Properties and characteristics of H2S.
Parts per million (PPM) as a measurement parameter.
Occupational exposure limits of H2S.
Factors affecting individual susceptibility of H2S.
Types of detector equipment.
Types of respiratory equipment.
Pre- use checks of personal detection devices and EBA.
Practical demonstration:
Operating personal H2S detection equipment (including checks)
Respond to an alarm.
Donning and operating (including checks) and EBA with a mask within 30 seconds.
Donning and operating (including checks) an EBA with a hood within 30 seconds.
Connecting and disconnecting to and from a pressurized cascade air supply with an activated EBA which has been donned correctly.
Assessment
Delegates will be assessed against the learning outcomes using direct observation, and oral and written questions as appropriate.
Delegates will be given a 30 minute written exam on completion of the training.
