Crane Supervisor (Lifting Supervisor)
Scope (Target Audience)
Employees who are involved in moving loads by a mechanical lifting device (crane) and their supervisors.
Objectives
To ensure the safe practice of moving of loads At the end of the training the Crane Supervisor should be able to –
Breaches of the HS&E
Preparation of Risk Assessment
Preparation of Job safety Analyze (JSA / JHA)
Perform all pre-lift checks
Understand the safe lifting capacity of any equipment used and situations that will cause overload
Maneuver the load safely and efficiently in a restricted space.
Prevent and counter any swing by correct means.
Communicate correctly and appropriately with others To cope with emergency situations.
Structure of the Course (Course Content)
Safety regulations regarding the use of cranes &Moving loads
Responsibility of Supervisor
Risk Assessment
Basic crane operating principles
The control of loads
Lifting and moving in confined spaces
Limitations in lifting capacity
Pre use checks on equipment
Awareness of the effect of sling angles on the S.W.L. / W.L.L.
Completing a lifting proficiency test.
Assessment
Theory
There will be interactive class discussion and verbal questioning throughout each lesson
Practical
The practical session will be assessed with respect to measurement of the objectives and their subsets. The slingers may be asked simple questions
periodically in relation to the slinger environment. Briefings will be given relating to specific tasks to be achieved whilst moving loads. Each slinger must
be able to successfully perform each of these tasks in order to be recorded as competent.
Pre-Requisites
Experience in lifting operations and usage of lifting equipment
Certification & Approvals
QISC certificate on successful completion
Validation

Course Duration
2 Days comprising of
1 Day Theory (Responsibility of Supervisors)
1 Day Practical (Slinging & Rigging Theory & Practical)
Maximum Number of Delegates
8 Persons
Venue
QISC, or if required shall be given at clients own premises
Health
All delegates will be asked to complete a QISC standard medical questionnaire prior to course commencement.
