Pediatric First Aid
*1. Target Group
This course provides a greater level of depth in the theoretical and practical training of first aid techniques that are specific to infants and children for all
child caregivers, school teachers, childcare professionals, childminders, nannies and parents.
*2. Delegate Pre-requisites
There is no pre-requisites on this course, however, previous training on Emergency First at Work course is an advantage.
*3. Physical and Stressful Demands
All personnel who participates in practical activities specified in this course must be physically and mentally capable of participating fully. All students will
be asked to complete a Qatar International Safety Centre standard medical questionnaire prior to course commencement.
*4. Aims and Objectives
By the end of this course you will learnt:
(a) Definition of First Aid and legal requirements
(b) Action in an emergency and prioritizing treatment
(c) Primary survey
(d) Secondary assessment (recovery position)
(e) Resuscitation in adults, babies and children
(f) Disorders of respiration
(g) Disorders of the circulation
(h) Wounds and bleeding
(i) Epilepsy
(j) Minor burns and scalds
(k) Foreign objects
*5. Learning Outcomes / Assessment Criteria
Upon completion of this course delegate must be able to:
(i) Understand the responsibilities of First Aiders
(ii) Be able to assess an incident
(iii) Be able to manage an unresponsive child who is breathing normally
(iv) Be able to manage an unresponsive baby who is breathing normally
(v) Be able to manage an unresponsive child who is not breathing normally
(vi) Be able to manage an unresponsive baby who is not breathing normally
(vii) Be able to recognize and assist a baby or child who is choking
(viii) Be able to manage a baby or child with external bleeding
(ix) Be able to manage a baby or child who is in shock
(x) Be able to manage a baby or child with a minor injury
*6. Delegate Performance Assessment / Certification / Validity
The course is a competence based course and includes observational written assessment.
QISC Certification. Valid for 3 years
