Rigging and Slinging
Scope (Target Audience)
Employees and supervisors who are involved in moving loads by a mechanical lifting device.
Objective
To ensure the safe practice of moving loads At the end of the training the slingers/riggers should be able to:
Perform all pre-lift checks
Understand the safe lifting capacity of any equipment used and situations that will cause overload
Manoeuvre the load safely and efficiently in a restricted space
Prevent and counter any swing by correct means
Communicate correctly and appropriately with others
Cope with emergency situations
Structure of the Course (Course Content)
Safety regulations regarding the use of cranes
Basic crane operating principles
The control of loads
Lifting and moving in confined spaces
Limitations in lifting capacity
Pre use checks on equipment
Awareness of the effect of sling angles on the S.W.L /W.L.L
Completing a lifting proficiency test
Assessment
Theory
There will be interactive class discussion and verbal questioning throughout the session
Practical
The practical session will be assessed with respect to measurement of the objectives and their subsets. The slinger may be asked simple questions
periodically in relation to the slinger environment.
