Abrasive Wheel Safety Awareness

1.Target Group
This two-hour training course is aimed at providing personnel with a basic level of Health and Safety knowledge; to enable development and an appropriate
understanding of the key Health and Safety principles; and best practice needed to help equip personnel for a safer, working environment, while carrying
out works using Abrasive Wheels.

2.Delegate Pre-requisites

3.Physical and Stressful Demands
All personnel who participates in practical activities specified in this course must be physically and mentally capable of participating fully. All students will
be asked to complete a Qatar International Safety Centre (QISC) standard medical questionnaire prior to course commencement.

4.Aims and Objectives
To make participants aware of:
 The definition of First Aid and legal requirements:
 The definition of abrasive wheels.
 Familiarization with markings, wheel life, storage and Personal Protection
Equipment (PPE).
 Information about different types of tools that use abrasive wheels.
 The importance of guards on tools/machines.
 An introduction to the hazards and main causes of injuries.
 Familiarization with the safe operation of:
 Hand-held portable grinder
 Fixed grinder

5. Learning Outcomes / Assessment Criteria
By the end of this course participants will have knowledge of:
 What is an abrasive wheel.
 Different types of power-tools that use abrasive wheels.
 Hazards associated with power-tools that use abrasive wheels.
 Life span, speed and storage of abrasive wheels.
 Control measures; safe operating procedure; user pre-inspection safety
guards.
 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

6.Delegate Performance Assessment / Certification / Validity
Delegate Performance Assessment: This is an awareness course and includes an observational written assessment.
Certification: QISC Approved Certification with Three years validity
