Authorized Gas Tester (AGT) Training

1. Target Group
This one-day training course is designed to meet the initial training and knowledge assessment requirements for personnel preparing to work as
Authorized Gas Tester and is required for those involved in performing a test for oxygen, flammable and toxic gases up to and including working in a
confined space.

2. Delegate Pre-requisites

3. Physical and Stressful Demands
There are no physical and stressful demands in this course, however the delegates will be required to undergo medical screening by completing
appropriate medical screening form provided by QISC in order to ensure that the delegates are fit and well to participate fully.

4. Aims and Objectives
The aim and objectives of the course are to ensure that personnel preparing for a gas tester role are equipped with the knowledge to conduct gas tests
for oxygen levels, flammable and toxic gases safely.

5. Learning Outcomes / Assessment Criteria
By the end of this course participants will:
 Understand what is gas testing
 Identify when gas testing is carried out
 Understand the roles and responsibilities of Authorised Gas Tester
 Identify hazards associated with working within a toxic, flammable or
non-life supporting atmosphere
 Understand how to select, use and care for PPE needed for different
oxygen deficient atmosphere plus toxic and flammable atmospheres
 Understand the principles of gas testing as applied to confined space
entry
 Identify the types of detectors used for the relevant application and how
to set up relevant detector for each gas testing application
 Identify the potential effects of operations within an oxygen deficient
toxic of flammable environment
 Understand how to interpret and document the results and advise
relevant personnel.

6. Delegate Performance Assessment / Certification / Validity
Delegate Performance Assessment: This is a competency based course and
includes written and practical assessment.
Certification: QISC Approved Certification with Three years validity
