Defensive Driving – Heavy Vehicle – Trailer

1.Target Group
The Course is designed for employees who drives bus and for companies who are aiming to reduce running costs for their fleet of vehicles.

2.Delegate Pre-requisites
1. Hold a valid Qatari driver’s license for a Heavy vehicle – Trailer
2. Minimum 3 months driving experience

3.Physical and Stressful Demands
Training and/or assessment activities contained within this course may include physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All personnel who
participate in such actives must be physically and mentally capable of participating fully.
Therefore, to ensure that prior to participating in practical exercises, the delegates will be required to undergo medical screening by completing appropriate
medical screening from provided by QISC.

4.Aims and Objectives
This Course is aimed at providing information on ways at improving participant’s defensive driving skills and awareness of hazards associated with
road driving:
 Human Factors and distractions
 Fitness of the driver and fit suitable vehicle for purpose
 Understanding of local statistics and traffic laws
 Understanding hazards and observation technique
 Hazard perception and Risk assessment
 System of vehicle control
 Planning a journey and emergencies
 Pre-Drive checks
 Road markings and signage

5.Learning Outcomes / Assessment Criteria
By the end of this course, the driver should be able to:
 Perform all pre-driving checks.
 Drive the vehicle safely, lawfully and correctly whilst interacting with other traffic.
 Keep a safe space on all sides of the vehicle in all traffic conditions.
 Observe, recognize, and correctly respond to all potential and actual hazards, and use the most effective hazard approach procedure.
 Communicate correctly and appropriately with other road users and Banksman.
 Drive the vehicle at a speed commensurate with the condition of the load, road traffic and environment conditions.
 Give an appropriate commentary whilst driving.
 Maneuver safely and efficiently in a restricted space.
 Roundabouts – rules, signaling, lane discipline conflicts
 Understand the specific skills and responsibilities for transporting goods and materials
 Maneuver trailers into loading or unloading positions and securing loads
 Trailer driving rules, role, responsibility (size weight, route designations, parking) as well as with company policies and procedures

6.Delegate Performance Assessment / Certification / Validity
Delegate performance Assessment:

Theory: There will be an interactive class discussion and verbal questioning throughout the session. There will be a written examination in the form of a
multiple choice paper.

Practical: The practical driving session will be assessed with respect to measurement of the objectives and their subsets. The driver may be asked simple
questions periodically in relation to the driving environment. Briefings will be given relating to specific task to be achieved whilst driving. Each driver must
be able to successfully perform each of these task in order to be recorded as competent. Assessment feedback will be provided at the end of the session.

Certification: QISC Approved Certification with 3 year Validity
