Emergency Control & Handling Techniques (Incident Commanding)

Scope (Target Group)
This is a half day QISC course, dealing with control of an emergency, and specifically workplace incidents and accidents. It is suitable for all members of
a workforce, particularly supervisors, foremen and Health & Safety Representatives.

Structure of the Course (Course Content)
Course Aim:
At the end of the course, delegates will have the confidence to deal with various types of emergency, ensuring the situation is brought under control with
no further escalation, and ensuring the safety of persons in the area. General advice is given which is vital for dealing with any emergency, covering
mental attitude, training, competence and equipment, before working with a few specific examples.

Content of Course
The syllabus focuses on:
Common workplace accidents and incidents involving fire, injury, electric shock, earthquake, loss of power and light, lift entrapment, suspect packages,
dangerous / harmful goods incident, etc.
Use of trained personnel: First Aiders, Fire Wardens, Maintenance staff, Security staff, etc.
Fear & apprehension
Assessment of the situation
Gathering facts and knowledge
Management of the situation
Roles and responsibilities
Use of existing pre-planned responses
Communication
Cordons & safe areas
Delegating & Sectorising
Dealing with arrival of emergency services
Post-incident debrief and lessons learnt

Course Duration:
This is an introduction to the management of emergencies, and hence a half-day course.

Pre-requisites:
We require a copy of your workplace emergency procedures so we can deliver a product and training
specifically for your Company / premises.
