Food Safety Awareness

1. Target Group
This four-hour awareness course provides information and knowledge on the safe handling of food for everyone who generally handles food.

2. Delegate Pre-requisites

3. Physical and Stressful Demands
There are no physical and stressful demands in this course, however the delegates will be required to undergo medical screening by completing
appropriate medical screening form provided by QISC in order to ensure that the delegates are fit and well to participate fully.

4. Aims and Objectives
The aims and objectives of this training are to provide participants with an essential food safety knowledge.

Upon completion of this course participants should be able to:
• List types of food hazards
• Understand causes of food poisoning
• Explain symptoms of food poisoning
• Understand responsibility of food handlers
• Explain benefits of maintaining food safety
• List types of bacteria
• Explain bacterial multiplication
• Understand high and low risk food
• Explain Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP)
• Explain prevention of bacterial multiplication
• List sources of bacteria
• Explain controlling cross contamination
• Understand the food poisoning chain
• Explain importance of personal hygiene
• Understand good/bad personal hygiene practices
• Explain importance of cleaning
• Explain rules for cleaning and disposal of waste
• Explain types of food pests
• Understand pest control
• List the signs of pest presence

6. Delegate Performance Assessment / Certification / Validity
Delegate Performance Assessment: This is an awareness course and includes observational written assessment.
Certification: QISC Approved Certification with Three years validity
