Tower Crane Rescue

1.Target Group
The target group for Tower Crane Rescue Training programme is personnel who are to be appointed to the role of rescue team member.

2.Delegate Pre-requisites
As a minimum, delegates must have completed basic working at height training in the use of practical fall protection systems such as fall arrest.

3.Physical and Stressful Demands
All personnel who participate in practical activities specified in this standard must be physically and mentally capable of participating fully. Therefore to
ensure that prior to participating in practical exercises, the delegates will be required to undergo medical screening by completing appropriate medical
screening form provided by QISC.

4.Aims and Objectives
The aim and objectives of the Tower Crane Rescue Programme are to equip the delegate with the initial knowledge, understanding and skills required to
perform a rescue from a tower crane, safely and effectively using a pre-rigged rescue kit.

5.Learning Outcomes / Assessment Criteria
Knowledge:
 Awareness and understanding of CRD contents and function
 Pre-use checks of equipment
 Selection of suitable anchorages
 Abrasion and edge hazards
 Elementary pulley theory
 Choosing a safe rescue path (projections, wind etc.)
 Medical dangers of suspension
 Casualty handling

Practical Skills:
 Fitting of a full body fall arrest harness
 Elementary use of fall protection lanyards
 Fitting a casualty harness
 Fitting a casualty in a stretcher
 Attachment to the casualty
 Raising the casualty
 Lowering the casualty
 Use of a tagline

6.Delegate Performance Assessment / Certification / Validity
Delegate Performance Assessment: Delegates will be assessed against a series of learning outcomes using direct observation and oral and/or written
questions as appropriate.
Certification: QISC Approved Certification with Two years validity

7.Instructor & Delegate Ratio
Minimum: 1:2
Maximum: 1:8

8.Duration and Timing
The optimum ‘contact time’ for Tower Crane Rescue Training programme is 16 hours (2 days).
