IOSH Managing Safely v5.0 (Chalk & Talk)

1. Target Group
Managing safely is for those who manage others and manage risk and resources in any sectors and organization.

2. Delegate Pre-requisites
Delegates are required to have an ability to read and understand English language as this course will be delivered only in English.

3. Physical and Stressful Demands
All personnel who participates in practical activities specified in this course must be physically and mentally capable of participating fully. Therefore to
ensure that prior to participating in practical exercises, the delegates will be required to undergo medical screening by completing appropriate medical
screening form provided by QISC.

4. Aims and Objectives
To give managers and supervisors an understanding of everyone’s health and safety responsibilities in the workplace.
To enable managers and supervisors to recognize how they can influence, control and monitor risk to improve health and safety issues in the workplace.

5. Learning Outcomes
The learner will be able to:
 Describe the key reasons to manage health and safety in the workplace.
 Define the key terms relating to health and safety
 Identify how the law can have an impact on health and safety in the workplace
 Describe how to assess, reduce and control risk in the workplace
 Identify workplace hazards and risks, their impact and how to manage them
 Identify how to evaluate and respond to an incident
 List the benefits and characteristics of an effective health and safety management system
 Describe the principles that underpin good health and safety performance

6. Delegate Performance Assessment / Certification / Validity
Delegate Performance Assessment:
Knowledge and comprehension – Learners are required to use one of the 4 standard assessments under examination conditions, which consist of 30
questions in a variety of formats that can be achieved within 45 minutes.
Each paper has a maximum of 60 marks.
Practical application of learning – Learners are required to complete a workplace risk assessment using either the standard IOSH form or their own
company form. This is to be completed within 2 weeks of the end of the course. The project must be marked using IOSH criteria and has a maximum
of 38 marks.
Certification: IOSH certification (certificate issuance will take minimum of 30 days from the course completion)
