OPITO Further Offshore Emergency Response Team Member

*1. Target Group
The target group for the OERTM Further Training are existing offshore emergency team members that are required to revalidate their OPITO OERTM
certification by completing training scenarios which they are unable undertake offshore.

*2. Delegate Pre-requisites
Delegates must possess any one of the following:
a) A valid OPITO Offshore Emergency Response Team Member certificate
b) A valid OPITO OERTM Further Training certificate

*3. Physical and Stressful Demands
Training and/or assessment activities contained within this Standard may include physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All personnel
who participate in such activities must be physically and mentally capable of participating fully.
Therefore to ensure that prior to participating in practical exercises, the delegates will be required to undergo medical screening by completing appropriate
medical screening form provided by QISC.

*4. Aims and Objectives
The aim and objectives of this OERTM Further Training Programme is to give OERTMs the opportunity to practice and maintain the skills required when
dealing with emergency response situations or incidents as members of an Emergency Response Team, in aspects of their role which they cannot
reasonably practise offshore.

*5. Learning Outcomes / Assessment Criteria
To successfully complete the Further OERTM training, delegates must able to demonstrate:

(1) How to select and operate the correct firefighting equipment and media to extinguish different types of fires
(2) Breathing apparatus control board procedures
(3) How to identify and don the appropriate emergency response PPE required for the OER team member
(4) The operation, donning and wearer checks of working duration breathing apparatus
(5) Participation in an incident brief
(6) Participation as an OER team member in a specified range of fire and nonfire related incidents under the direction of the Offshore Emergency
Response Team Leader (OERTL) following safe working practices and procedures
(7) Selection and use of correct portable fire-fighting equipment
(8) Selection, operation and flushing of foam firefighting equipment
(9) Extinguishing of different types of fire and securing the area
(10) Effective communication with OERTL and OER team members during an incident
(11) The key considerations and actions whilst entering and working in the incident area
(12) Correct search and rescue procedures and techniques
(13) The correct steps involved in initial casualty assessment and recovery
(14) Participation in a post-incident debrief

*6. Delegate Performance Assessment / Certification / Validity
Delegate Performance Assessment: Delegates will be assessed against the learning outcomes 1 through 14 using direct observation.
Certification: OPITO Approved Certification with Two Years validity

*7. Instructor & Delegate Ratio
The following ratios indicate the maximum number of delegates to be supervised by one Instructor at any one time during each activity.

*8. Duration and Timing
The optimum ‘contact time’ for this OPITO programme is 12.5 hours
