OPITO Travel Safety by Boat Further
*1. Target Group
Travel Safely by Boat Further Training is for all personnel travelling and transferring by boat to an offshore oil and gas installation.
*2. Delegate Pre-requisites
Delegates must hold a valid OPITO Approved Travel Safely by Boat certificate.
*3. Physical and Stressful Demands
Training and/or assessment activities contained within this Standard may include physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All personnel
who participate in such activities must be physically and mentally capable of participating fully.
Therefore to ensure that prior to participating in practical exercises, the delegates will be required to undergo medical screening by completing appropriate
medical screening form provided by QISC.
*4. Aims and Objectives
The aim and objectives of the TSbB Further Training Course is to refresh the safety and emergency response skills of personnel who have previously
successfully completed their TSbB Initial Training.
*5. Learning Outcomes / Assessment Criteria
To successfully complete this Further Training Programme, delegates must be able to demonstrate:
(1) The safety requirements covering safe embarkation and disembarkation
(2) Carrying out their individual responsibilities
(3) Donning of an appropriate floatation device used during transfers
(4) Identifying and controlling hazards during swing rope transfer
(5) Swing rope transfers with the correct method of luggage transfer
(6) Acting correctly in the event of an emergency
(7) Donning of an appropriate floatation device during an emergency
(8) Boarding a marine life raft from water
(9) Initial and secondary emergency response actions
(10) In-water survival techniques
*6. Delegate Performance Assessment / Certification / Validity
Delegate Performance Assessment: Delegates will be assessed against the learning outcomes 1 through 10 direct by observation.
Certification: OPITO Approved Certification with Four Years validity
*7. Instructor & Delegate Ratio
The following ratios indicate the maximum number of delegates to be supervised by one Instructor at any one time during each activity.
Theory & Demonstration 1:16
Practical life raft & in-water exercises 1:8
Practical (transfer basket) 1:4
*8. Duration and Timing
The optimum ‘contact time’ for further training is seen as 1 hour.
