OPITO Oil & Gas Industry International Minimum Industry Safety Training (IMIST) – Digital Delivery

1. Target Group
This OPITO approved programme is Computer Based Training (CBT), and is designed to introduce the fundamental safety elements of the oil & gas
industry to new starts, giving an appreciation of the potential hazards and controls that might be encountered by personnel. Each unit has been designed
to focus the delegates’ attention on their personal responsibility for safety thus influencing their behavior and attitude towards their co-workers, the oil and
gas operations and the environment.

2. Delegate Pre-requisites
There are no prerequisites required for this course.

3. Physical and Stressful Demands
There are no specific medical requirements, although personnel must have a current offshore medical certificate before being allowed to work offshore.
However, the delegates will be required to undergo medical screening by completing appropriate medical screening form provided by QISC in order to
ensure that the delegates are fit and well to participate fully.

4. Aims and Objectives
The aim of the IMIST programme is to introduce delegates to the key safety elements required by all employees working in the oil and gas industry. It
also ensures the knowledge and understanding of these basic safety elements are maintained and current amongst the existing workforce.

5. Learning Outcomes / Assessment Criteria
At the end of this training, the delegate must able to explain:
1. Introduction to the Hazardous Environment
2. Working Safely Including Safety Observation System
3. Understanding the Risk Assessment Process
4. Tasks that Require a Permit to Work
5. Personal Responsibility in Maintaining Asset Integrity
6. Using Manual Handling Techniques Every Day
7. Controlling the Use of Hazardous Substances
8. Knowledge and Practices of Working at Height
9. Being Aware of Mechanical Lifting Activities

6. Delegate Performance Assessment / Certification / Validity
Delegate Performance Assessment: This interactive digital learning training programme works by assessing the safety knowledge of an oil and gas worker
during a random sequence of assessment questions. At the end of the assessment, which is completed under timed conditions, the programme will
automatically and dynamically assemble a unique course for each individual based on the knowledge gaps identified in their pre-assessment. The candidate
is then presented with this content and the relevant summative assessment questions, and the process is repeated until a 100% pass mark is achieved.
Certification: The successfully completed candidate will be issued with an OPITO IMIST certificate which is recognised throughout the Oil & Gas sector.
Validity: Reassessment, via an on-line assessment, will take place every four years or more frequently if persons have not worked in the industry for at
least 12 months.

7. Instructor & Delegate Ratio
The following ratio indicate the maximum number of delegates to be supervised by one Instructor at any one time during each activity.
Theory 1:12

8. Duration and Timing
The foreseeable duration of this training would take a minimum of 9.5 hours (in total).
